Come Home on Historic Route 66
A
few miles of paved Americana passes though our community. The famous black
sign with the white shield and a pair of sixes calls Strafford home for this
short stretch, and we invite you to make it your home too.
Every fall we
celebrate the mother road during our Route 66 Days. Our celebration includes
a parade, classic car show, games, and lots of food.
Growing With the Ozarks
Strafford is a growing community in southwest Missouri. Our town, just
minutes from Springfield on Interstate 44, prides itself with its rich
history, AAA schools, dedication towards community and economic development,
safe and comfortable neighborhoods both rustic and new, and community
involvement.
We invite you to explore our Web site and discover our community. Visit
one of our new neighborhoods where many beautiful homes are being built. In
2010, Strafford will continue to provide economic growth and jobs for the
Ozarks. Watch us grow!
Strafford Enhanced Enterprise Zone Receives Approval
June 7, 2010 – Jefferson City, Missouri
The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) has announced approval of Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) designation for the City of Strafford. The EEZ will provide a 10 year abatement of real property tax involved with improvements made to real property within the EEZ. This designation will enable city officials to continue to move forward with economic development efforts.
To be eligible, a business must create at least two new full-time jobs and generate at least $100,000 of new investment. The employer must also provide access to group health insurance benefits in which the employer pays a minimum of 50% of the employee health insurance premium. These employer requirements will be reviewed each April. If the criteria are met, the business is eligible for a minimum of 50% real property tax abatement. That percentage can go up if the employer hires five or more new employees or generates more than $5 million of new investment. The maximum tax abatement to be awarded is 90%. Most types of businesses are included, but there are a few exceptions including adult entertainment, gambling establishments, religious organizations, retail trade, educational services, and food & drinking places.
“This abatement should make our city more attractive to businesses considering relocating to the Ozarks,” acknowledged Tom Vicat, the Strafford City Administrator. Be sure to say a word of thanks to Tom, Mayor Barbara Helvey, and any Board of Aldermen or member of the Strafford Enhanced Enterprise Zone Board you see around town.
